2019 Kalaw 51K Ultra Marathon
December 7 @ 6:15am to 4:30pm
Event Location: Kalaw Heritage Hotel, Kalaw
2019 sees the 4th staging of the Kalaw Trail Run (KTR). This year we are particularly excited to be able to offer for the first time in Myanmar an Ultra Marathon as part of this event. It's been pleasing to watch the KTR grow bigger and better each year, with more runners taking part. In 2018 it was terrific to see not only many runners from all over the world joining the event but as importantly, a large increase in the number of Myanmar nationals taking part. In fact the Myanmar runners accounted for nearly 50% of total participants, which just shows the huge interest in running emerging in this country and the desire of of people to get fit and healthy. It seemed only logical to organisers of this event that there was a definite need to offer something longer and more challenging that would draw in more runners from within Myanmar and overseas, who were looking for something a bit different while at the same time having opportunity to see more of this beautiful country.
The KTR Ultra 51K is a challenging course with a total elevation of 2075m and it's highest point at 1607m. Whilst not long by international ultra distance standards, the course is certainly tough enough to test most trail runners. With hydration, nutrition and water stations every 10-12km it is it is ideal for the "first time" ultra marathon trail runner also.
Starting and finishing at the Kalaw Heritage Hotel the course leaves the town after a gentle 4km climb along back streets before entering the hills and trails. Passing through 10 villages, several monasteries, crossing streams and rice fields, and taking you through some amazingly fertile farming lands, the trail enters back into Kalaw after a quick run through a pine forest and down to the railway station before returning up the road to the finish at the Kalaw Heritage Hotel.
By participating in this event you will be making history in completing Myanmars first Ultra marathon trail run. Congratulations!
We do hope you not only enjoy your run, but also the warmth and hospitality of the Kalaw community and all that this this beautiful region has to offer.
