Coming up ...

The weather is cooler, the days are getting shorter, and the rains becoming less frequent, all means one thing, its coming up to the Myanmar running season. Check out summaries of the races coming up and find that motivation to put on your trainers and get training!

Bagan Temple Run

November 23rd

Goes without saying how amazing the place of Bagan is, and is great to see it finally become a UNESCO world heritage site. With its new found fame this will surely draw in more tourists, including for the Bagan Temple run which predominantly caters for running tourist. Don’t let the tourist packages put you off though. In recent years it has become easier for Myanmar residents to enter, you just have to send them an email, however the fee they still charge Myanmar residents will put you off.

100PLUS Active Competitive Run 2019

December 1st

This is possibly the best mass participation running event in the Myanmar. Last year over 5,000 ran. The event is friendly and very well arranged, there is also a good amount of free stuff included making it great value for money. The only downside that can be said for the event is both the 10km and 5km are out and back routes. However the route has been tweaked to now start and finish at the Thuwana football stadium, a frequent home for the Myanmar National football team.

Last year runners from the Sanchaung striders acted as pace makers, guiding participants onto reaching their PB’s. Hopefully we will again see a good turnout and 100PLUS continue their good work into improving running participation levels in Myanmar and encouraging people to run their best time. If its anything like last year its going to be great! Very much looking forward to it.

Myanmar Adventure Triathlon

December 1st TBC

Okay so this may not be a run, but is does include running. If you can also swim and cycle I would highly recommend you keep an eye out for upcoming details, last year it was set at the beautiful Ngwe Saung beach.

Kalaw Trail Run

December 7th and 8th

Now in its 4th year 2019 is going to be bigger and better than ever before. Myanmar’s very first ultra trail run will be taking place on Saturday 7th . The route has been confirmed and its not for the inexperienced runner, the total distance may “only” be 51km, short for a ultra, however the elevation gains are intense but the views do make it all worth it.

There will also be the addition of a kids 5km fun run on Sunday 8th, to encourage both local children and those traveling with their parents to also participate.

Another exciting change is an all together new route for the 24km run. It’s a little longer than last years 21km and it also has little more elevation, but you wont notice these things with the even more beautiful views you will get to witness. And off course there is the 12km, this route has been tweaked a little from last year and whether you choose to walk or run this is a perfect option to experience some beautiful Kalaw trails.

Registration will open in 2 weeks.

Who doesn't like a weekend in Kalaw?! Great hotels, great food, great trail. See you there.

Pocari Sweat

They have confirmed its happening this year but no information released yet, but word on the street is that its happening December 15th. Hopefully details will be announced soon as this is another great event.

Yoma Yangon International Marathon

January 19th

The big one. The only marathon in Yangon. Enough said.

Ywa Ngan Trail Run

March, weekend TBC

Keep your eyes peeled for further information on the 2nd Ywa Ngan run in early 2020.

The wonderful people as Myanmar responsible tourism also have arranged running events in the past, including the Thandaung Gyi Mountain Run and the Ngwe Saung Beach Run, both were earlier this year. Hopefully confirmation of future events will be released soon.

This list is not exhaustive, there are other local runs that happen across the country, do let Run Myanmar know of other events so we can add them to our list!

Happy Running!
